Fall reptile shows

Looks like I will have a friend of mine up in Tinley in October.  Long story short- If you need a rack or cage delivered to that show contact me and we will set it up.  It does not look like space will allow for bringing extra to display /sell so pre-sold deliveries only.  In addition he will have the usual hide boxes, stainless, thermostats, etc on hand.  You can email me (Rich) at sales@reptilebasics.com with questions/requests.

I have someone else who has arranged to attend the upcoming Repticon Tampa show as well as the Charlotte show.   Stu will be going with supplies but no racks for the Tampa and will have racks for the Charlotte show.  You can email him at stu@allproshipping.com if you have any requests/questions.  Stu also hits most of the Repticons in the Southeast (Atlanta, etc) so you can email him if you have something specific you need.

I will be in White Plains this coming weekend for the Sept. 12 show.   Hope to see you there.  Remember- we are down on the floor across from the stage/Komodo Reptiles now!

Thanksgiving Schedule, White Plains Show

We will be shipping Monday Though Wednesday this week.  Thursday and Friday we will be closed.  UPS is not picking up for the holiday weekend. I have not figured out the Christmas/New Years schedule yet but I expect it to be similar.

Saturday we get to brave the wonderful NYC metro area traffic for the reptile show in White Plains on Sunday.  Last year was the worst I have ever seen it and I lived there for half of my life- I have seen traffic.  The NJ Turnpike was stop and go all the way to the Delaware bridge on the way home.  Now that’s a lot of fun!  Trailer is full and ready to go though so there is no turning back??  Show looks like it will be pretty good- above average pre- ordered racks.  That generally a pretty good indicator.  Stop by and see us- you don’t want to be at the mall this weekend!

New site is up

The new site is up and running.  Actually, it has been up, more or less, since late last week.  Considering the level of change I would say this has been by far the easiest website overhaul I have ever worked on!  The few inevitable bugs but pretty much steady progress in a short amount of time.

The new one page checkout is about 10 times easier and quicker!  I am finally able to limit the shipping choices on racks and cages to ground while leaving all else alone.  I can now easily post and remove sales automatically.  The list goes on, many of which you will never see from your side but it should help make shopping with us that much easier, faster and more enjoyable.  How can that be a bad thing?

We are quickly approaching another White Plains NY show.  Time to get your rack/cage reservations in!  I am always a bit concerned (right word?) that this will be the year I get stuck in some snow up there.  Funny, 15 years ago when I lived “up there” I didn’t give it a second thought.  Now it looks an awful lot like a pain in the rear.  Bet the bass fishing season up there is already done :) - not here!

Frank will be on the scene with a lot of my holdback colubrids ranging from ‘07 through ‘09 animals.  I am selling off the private stash of animals following this coming breeding season.  Just not enough time with all I have going on now and planned for this coming year.  Chondros will stay, of course.  Just have 4 of them right now and got some eggs (a bit surprised by them).  They have always been and continue to be about the easiest animals I own in the care department.  ANyway, this will be a good opportunity to pick up all of the really nice stuff I hang on to for future breeders.  I figure I can always replace them in a couple of years when I inevitably get back into it.  Disappointing to see it go but it has to happen- for now………

Updates

Not been a lot to write about so I have been a bit lazy on the Blog updates.

Shows have been pretty good all around.  Most have been very good.   Both Richmond and Columbia were surprisingly good for us.

Next weekend is White Plains NY and Frank will be in Birmingham AL.  Trailer is about sold out already.  Pre orders were plentiful!  We still have a little room for Birmingham.  I should have a few racks for sale up in NY for “walk ins”.  I will know a little better come middle of this week when the trailer is fully packed.  Kind of hard to predict how much room you will be left with once all of the pre orders are packed.  We shall see.  I look forward to this show in NY- snow is done for the year!  Had a couple of close calls this season up north, another few hours later and we would have been staying up there for a couple of extra days.  Been lucky with the weather.

Of course the big news on the net is the HR669 bill.  I get about 20 emails a day on it so the word seems to be out.  All of us here have written letters to all of the appropriate committee members and I will be bugging them on the phone this week.  Hopefully this works out in our favor.  If you have not heard about it or need further info I would recommend PIJAC’s website.  www.pijac.org

Our new 2×4 cage with a single, full size door will be available immediately following the White Plains show.  Same price, heat options and dimensions as our standard double door.  We have reinforced the top of the cage with 1/8″ aluminum from end to end to give it the strength it needs.

Back here at home, I am bailing out on the Ball Pythons.  Not really a reflection or commentary on the BP market (I have actually done pretty well with them) but more a time and convenience factor.  Due to space constraints I have to keep the whole collection in a single room.  That is pretty tricky to do when you have other sprecies of pythons and especially with colubrids.  Brumation is a pain with the colubrids and it is hard to temp cycle the balls.  Just a tough situation.  So, away with the BP’s and on to something new.  The goal is to ba able to just “pull the plug” on the whole room for brumation in the winter months and forget about snakes for about 12 weeks.  I had that luxury many years ago and am starting to miss it. Actually been missing it for awhile now!  That and it won’t be so damn hot in the room!

With that new concept I started accumulating some rosy boas.  Got some real nice stock from a few different breeders and should start producing in small numbers next year and be very strong the following year.  Still looking around for some more as well.  Got some holes to fill in with the group.  The rest of the kings, rats and bulls will be coming on line over the next 2-3 seasons as well.  Look forward to it, lots of fun and lots of variety.
